Campus Catwalk Celebrates Cultural Diversity
More than 20 international students clad in different national costumes and folk dresses paraded down the catwalk at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today (Friday) to celebrate the university's cultural diversity. The occasion was a multinational fashion show named "UST in Style". These international students under The Swire International Young Fellows Programme joined hands with local and exchange students to form six teams, each featuring the fashion of one cultural region, and competing against each other for the awards for "Best Model", "Best Presentation", and "Overall Championship". The teams featured the fashion and culture of China, East Asia, South Asia, the Philippines, Scandinavia, and Europe. They comprised students from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mainland China, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, UK and Chile.

Citi raises awareness on environmental protection through Citi International Case Competition 2007
Thammasat University from Thailand has emerged the winner of the Citi International Case Competition 2007, beating 17 other outstanding teams from leading business schools around the world. The theme for this year's competition was environmental protection to reduce the impact of climate change in business. Held in Hong Kong from October 22 to 25, 2007, the fifth Citi International Case Competition attracted 18 teams from Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Thailand and the USA.

Checking Air Quality Anytime, Anywhere
Hong Kong's first mobile air pollution monitoring platform was inaugurated today at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The platform will allow researchers to map air pollutant concentrations in real-time, throughout different areas of Hong Kong.The Mobile Real-time Air Monitoring Platform (MAP) was developed by HKUST with a grant of HK$12.3 million from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Prof. Paul Chu, President of HKUST, and Mr. Paul Cheng, Steward of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, jointly officiated at the Inauguration Ceremony.A powerful research tool to monitor air pollution, MAP is a specially fitted-out van designed for continuous measurements of air pollutants, and is ideal for inaccessible locations such as tunnels and bus depots.

Giving Used Books a Second Life
Bookcrossing has grown into a global phenomenon in the past decade, but the idea still hasn’t taken off in Hong Kong. A team of HKUST alumni are determined to build a local reading culture by releasing second-hand books into the wild, with the help of an app they designed.Book circulation was stagnant with the traditional way of bookcrossing. Thousands of books ended up sitting on our shelves.
