HKUST Secures Largest Share of RGC Strategic Topics Grant to Drive Innovation in Elderly Healthcare
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has distinguished itself in the 2026/2027 Strategic Topics Grant (STG) of the Research Grants Council (RGC) under the University Grants Committee. Of the six approved projects, two are led by HKUST scholars, collectively receiving more than HKD 54.41 million in funding (including matching fund from the University). This represents the highest total funding amount among local universities. The projects leverage artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare to enhance the management of bacterial infections in older adults and provide integrated management for Parkinson's disease, underscoring HKUST's leadership in cutting-edge research and its commitment to developing innovative solutions to the healthcare challenges posed by the aging global population.

HKUST Innovations Shine at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today showcased its award-winning inventions, which were recognized at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva (Geneva Inventions Expo). The University's 62 participating teams won a total of 62 accolades, including 13 Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, 20 Gold Medals, 20 Silver Medals, and 9 Bronze Medals. This year's achievements set a new record for the University and make it the highest-awarded higher education institution in Hong Kong.

Mitochondrial dysfunction is associated with various chronic diseases and cancers, including neurodegenerative diseases and metabolic syndrome. Gently extracting a single mitochondrion from within a living cell—without causing damage and without the guidance of fluorescent makers—has long been a challenge akin to threading a needle in a storm for scientists.

HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies, EY and Golden Age Foundation Sign MoU to advance “Smart Ecosystem for the Silver Population” in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Institute for Emerging Market Studies, EY1 and Golden Age Foundation have jointly announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to officially activate the development of the “Smart Ecosystem for the Silver Population” in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). This initiative aims to promote the development of the region’s elderly care industry. The signing ceremony, held during the “BOC Life 10th Golden Age Expo and Summit”, was witnessed by Mr. Ho Kai Ming, JP, Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Researchers at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have developed a groundbreaking AI technology that reconstructs precise 3D bones and organs models from minimal X-ray images, slashing patients’ radiation exposure by up to 99% compared to CT scans. This innovation not only enhances patient safety but also reduces costs and wait times, with potential applications in surgical planning, real-time imaging, and personalized implants. HKUST team is collaborating with different industry partners, including bone printing company Koln 3D Technology (Medical) Limited (Koln 3D), to implement this technology in public hospitals.
