Led by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and established under the InnoHK research clusters of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the Hong Kong Space Robotics and Energy Centre (HKSREC) today hosted the event themed "Leading Space Intelligence: Into the Future." The full-day event brought together representatives from government, industry, academia, research institutions, and the investment community from Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and overseas, providing a platform for in-depth exchange on space technology research, cross-regional collaboration, and commercial aerospace applications.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently hosted the Hult Prize Hong Kong Summit, part of the world’s largest global student entrepreneurship competition, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize of student entrepreneurship.” Thorani, a team designing crop loss verification mechanisms to help insurance providers assess risk and process claims, emerged as the champion of this year’s competition and will represent Hong Kong in the next round of the global Hult Prize, competing for a seed fund of up to US$1 million to advance their startup venture.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has once again achieved strong results under the Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One‑Plus (RAISe+) Scheme launched by the Innovation and Technology Commission. In the third round of funding, seven HKUST research projects have been recommended for funding, accounting for nearly one-third of all approved projects in this round. Together with the first two rounds, HKUST has now secured a total of 19 funded projects, the highest number among local universities, underscoring its leading role in translating research outcomes into real-world applications and in advancing industry-academia-research collaboration.

Two international deep-sea research initiatives, led by the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou) (GML) with significant contributions from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), have received official endorsement from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Both initiatives are designed to address critical gaps in climate science by investigating seabed methane seeps' role in global warming and exploring biodiversity in extreme deep-sea ecosystems. The two programs are poised to strengthen global collaboration and deliver scientific insights essential for tackling future climate challenges.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed a delegation from Khalifa University (KU) on April 10, led by President H.E. Prof. Ebrahim AL HAJRI, marking another important step in the growing partnership between the two research-intensive institutions.The delegation was received by HKUST Council Chairman Prof. Harry SHUM, together with Provost Prof. Yike GUO, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. Charles NG, and other members of the University’s senior leadership. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today showcased its award-winning inventions, which were recognized at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva (Geneva Inventions Expo). The University's 62 participating teams won a total of 62 accolades, including 13 Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, 20 Gold Medals, 20 Silver Medals, and 9 Bronze Medals. This year's achievements set a new record for the University and make it the highest-awarded higher education institution in Hong Kong.

With the rapid aging of Hong Kong's population, it is projected that by 2039, individuals aged 65 or above will account for over 30% of the total population, making early intervention for cognitive health an urgent necessity. This demographic shift highlights the critical need for effective strategies to address cognitive decline in the elderly.One of these strategies is to promote the detection of Alzheimer's disease at the community level. But this approach faces numerous obstacles. High testing costs, invasive procedures, and a lack of public awareness about the importance of early detection have hindered accessibility. Caring for our communityRecognizing these challenges, the NeuroCare Community Project was launched to bridge this gap. This project supports early and proactive intervention at the community level to delay the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, thus alleviating pressure on caregivers and society at large.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is pleased to receive approval from the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the HKSAR Government to establish two new research centers under the third InnoHK research cluster, SEAM@InnoHK. The research centers will focus respectively on renewable energy and storage, as well as power semiconductors and related applications.
