Revolutionizing Breast Cancer Diagnosis: HKUST Launches Large AI Model “MOME” for Testing in Over Ten Hospitals
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced today that  its School of Engineering researchers have developed Mixture of Modality Experts (MOME), a groundbreaking large artificial intelligence (AI) model for non-invasive breast cancer diagnosis. Trained on the China’s largest multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) breast cancer dataset, MOME achieves expert-level accuracy in classifying tumor malignancy, comparable to that of radiologists with five+years of experience. This innovative solution is now undergoing extensive clinical validation across more than ten hospitals and partner institutions, including Shenzhen People’s Hospital, the Guangzhou First Municipal People's Hospital, and Yunnan Cancer Center, to validate its effectiveness and ensure real-world applicability. HKUST & Esquel Unveil Five-Year Study: Empowering Students for Sustainable Innovation
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (“HKUST”) has partnered with Esquel Enterprises Limited (“Esquel Group”) to launch a five-year study program that allows HKUST students to conduct biannual field research at the textile manufacturer’s 500,000-square-meter Sustainable Development Garden Integral, recognized as one of China’s top 20 sustainable development projects by the United Nations.  Guided by HKUST faculty, students will visit the garden twice a year in groups to assess and make recommendations regarding its sustainability impact on environmental monitoring and biodiversity conservation.  This initiative marks another academic-industry collaboration aimed at accelerating the Greater Bay Area’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

HKUST Strengthens Academic Ties with Leading Universities in Vietnam and Indonesia
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcomed delegations from Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCMC) and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) to campus last week to strengthen academic ties and foster collaborative partnerships. The VNU-HCMC Chancellor Prof. Vu Hai QUAN led the delegation to engage in fruitful discussions with HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP and the HKUST team, including Prof. Jimmy FUNG, Associate Provost (Teaching & Learning); Prof. Emily NASON, Director of Undergraduate Recruitment & Admissions Office; Prof. Tuan Anh NGUYEN, Associate Professor from the Division of Life Science; Euphemia CHOW, Head of Global Learning; and Yvonne LI, Head of Global Engagement and Greater China Affairs. Discussions covered diverse areas, including student exchange programs and joint research initiatives, underscoring the joint commitment of both institutions to uphold academic excellence and innovation.

HKUST Receives Generous Donation from Ho Iu Kwong Charity Foundation
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has received a generous donation from the Ho Iu Kwong Charity Foundation (the Foundation) to enhance student development and campus life. In appreciation of this benevolent support, HKUST has named the UG Student Hall III in honor of Mr. Ho Iu Kwong and his wife, Ms. Kwok Pui Chun.  Mr. HO Sai-Chu, eldest son of the late philanthropist and Chairman of the Foundation, attended the naming and plaque unveiling ceremony for the Ho Iu Kwong and Kwok Pui Chun Hall, joined by his family members, the Foundation’s representatives, and HKUST senior management. The late Mr. HO Iu Kwong, founder of Fook Lee Construction Company Ltd, was a distinguished business figure who made significant contributions to education and society.

HKUST and French Consulate General Renew Partnership to Nurture Sustainability-Focused Researchers
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau (French Consulate General) for the third time, deepening eight-year collaboration. This agreement strengthens joint efforts to address global sustainability challenges, which include the Anita Conti Sustainable Innovation Fellowship, an initiative designed to foster the development of the next generation of researchers, innovators, and environmentalists, equipping them to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change and its global impacts.
