The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), in collaboration with the Working Group on Developing the Low-altitude Economy under the HKSAR Government and the Greater Bay Area Low Altitude Economy Alliance, today hosted the forum "Future of Low Altitude Economy: An Inter-City Dialogue on Commercialization and Standardization".The forum brought together more than 300 representatives from government, academia, industry, and research organizations from Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, and overseas to explore opportunities and challenges in advancing the low-altitude economy (LAE). Discussions focused on commercialization, standardization, technological innovation, and cross-sector collaboration, with the shared goal of fostering a robust, sustainable, and globally connected LAE ecosystem.

The Centre for AI Robotics in Space Sustainability (CAIRSS) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has secured HKD 46 million in funding from Stellar Rise Global Holdings Limited (Stellar Rise) to develop advanced bio-inspired robotic manipulation technologies for in-orbit operations. The project aims to support space debris removal and enable next-generation in-orbit manufacturing. With strong backing from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)’ institutions, the project targets an in-orbit demonstration by 2029, contributing to the sustainable development of space technology and the space economy, while supporting the nation's goal of advancing its position as an aerospace powerhouse.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today successfully hosted its annual "Unicorn Day," one of Hong Kong's flagship innovation and entrepreneurship events. The event brought together over 1,900 participants, including students, faculty, and alumni, as well as international and local government representatives, industry partners, investors, innovation and technology entrepreneurs, and researchers. The University's 62 participating teams won a total of 62 accolades, including 13 Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, 20 Gold Medals, 20 Silver Medals, and 9 Bronze Medals. This year's achievements set a new record for the University and make it the highest-awarded higher education institution in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has partnered with Gammon Construction Limited (Gammon), Swire Properties, and AXA Climate on a pioneering initiative to apply the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework to commercial premises. A team of students from HKUST’s BSc in Environmental Management and Technology (EVMT) has completed Hong Kong’s first student-driven TNFD-based assessment for commercial properties, providing strategic recommendations to integrate nature into business and financial decisions.

From December 1 to 5, 2025, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), in partnership with the World Economic Forum (WEF), hosted the 2025 edition of the prestigious Young Global Leaders Education Module.The flagship event, themed “Our AI Future is Now: Reflections and Next Directions,” brought together 35 influential young leaders from 24 countries and regions for an intensive exploration of artificial intelligence’s societal and economic implications. The program also served as a key milestone ahead of HKUST’s upcoming 35th Anniversary, underscoring the University’s commitment to fostering innovation-led global impact.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has demonstrated outstanding research leadership in the 2025/26 Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) and Research Impact Fund (RIF) under the University Grants Committee (UGC)'s Research Grants Council (RGC). The University secured funding for 13 projects under the CRF and RIF, with grants totaling more than HKD77 million. The achievement places HKUST first among all UGC-funded universities in both the number of funded projects and total funding received. This accomplishment highlights HKUST's strength in pioneering interdisciplinary and cross-institutional research, as well as its exceptional capacity for knowledge transfer in translating cutting-edge research outcomes into real-world impact that enhances societal well-being.
