ENVR Prof. CHEN Fei has become the second scholar from Greater China to receive the prestigious 2025 Luke Howard Award from the International Association for Urban Climate, in recognition of his exceptional leadership and transformative contributions to urban climatology.

In an article on the strict customer identification rules mandated in HK's new stablecoin law, Institute for Financial Research Head of Administration and Asst. Director Prof. TANG Bo was quoted as saying that such rules are overly strict and could hinder efforts to acquire users.

ENVR Chief Development Strategist/Adjunct Prof. Christine LOH indicated world-class scientists and experts at HKUST are driving solutions across climate change and sustainability, aiming to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.  

Four research teams at HKUST have developed the MultiRole-R1 framework, which enables AI thinking from multiple perspectives. The framework has shown significant improvement when AI is asked to undertake both objective and subjective tasks.

Provost Prof. GUO Yike was invited to serve as a keynote speaker at this year's Learning & Teaching Expo held in early July.

In an interview on stablecoin oversight, SBM Acting Dean and ISOM Chair Prof. HUI Kai-Lung observed that the large-scale stablecoin issuance could challenge monetary control and user management, creating conflicts between decentralized and centralized regulations. 

A study by University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and HKUST Dept of Finance Liwei Huang Associate Professor of Business Prof. Yan JI found that AI trading bots, when placed in simulated markets, did not compete but instead engaged in spontaneous price-fixing collusion.
