A team led by HKUST(GZ) Assist. Prof. Rui CAO at the Thrust of Urban Governance and Design has systematically quantified the transformation paths for urban villages by leveraging AI, multi-source spatio-temporal data and spatial analytics.

HKUST(GZ) unveiled its new Embodied Intelligence Research Institute during the Embodied Intelligence Sub-Forum under GBA Science Forum 2025. The Institute plans to invest RMB 168 million in facilities for the 2025/26 period. 

HKUST, Moffett AI and ByteDance Seed team have for the first time proposed "SQ-format", a new data format that can speed up large language model response time by 200% without compromising accuracy. 

A research team from HKUST found that the "stable rank" within AI models can reflect the quality of generated responses.  A high stable rank corresponds to coherent and context-rich answers, while a low rank indicates the opposite. 

The State Key Laboratory of Climate Resilience for Coastal Cities, jointly established by HKUST and PolyU, was officially launched. The lab aims to enhance HK's position as an international innovation and technology hub.

HKUST and SEMI co-hosted the 2025 Semiconductor Innovation and Intelligent Application Summit. The event featured an interactive innovation zone showcasing cutting-edge technologies from 12 research teams across HKUST and HKUST(GZ).

A researcher from the University of Texas at Dallas, along with collaborators from universities including HKUST, has developed A11yShape, an AI-assisted tool that enables visually impaired computer programmers to create, edit and verify 3D models independently. 

Secretary for Health Prof. LO Chung-Mau and Secretary for Education Dr. CHOI Yuk-Lin co-chaired a meeting to receive a briefing from P Prof. Nancy IP and her team on the next steps for establishing the School of Medicine. 

A research team led by CSE Asst. Prof. XU Dan, have proposed FlashVGGT in a major revolution of 3D reconstruction technology. 

Daimon Robotics Technology, co-founded by Robotics Institute Founding Director Prof. Emeritus Michael WANG Yu and his student DUAN Jianghua, received fresh funding from China Mobile’ Lianchang Fund, demonstrating strong investment in robotics from the Chinese state and private sector.  

P Prof. Nancy IP stated in an interview that HKUST School of Medicine aims to pursue a coordinated and complementary development alongside the existing two medical schools in HK.

SkylandX,  jointly established by HKUST and the University of California, Berkeley, can be used for tasks such as fire inspections and construction site management.
