Startups and student representatives from HKUST and HKUST(GZ) achieved remarkable results at the 4th Pazhou Algorithm Competition and Ecological Empowerment Conference. HKUST startup Light Illusions, founded by HKUST Von Neumann Institute Assoc. Director/ECE Prof. TAN Ping, showcased its proprietary "3D objects and scenes generating base models".

VPRD Prof. Tim CHENG shared the University’s ongoing commitment to supporting I&T development in the Northern Metropolis and enhancing collaborative models between HK, SZ, and the wider GBA to drive technological and industrial transformation.

The "HKUST SZ Platform I&T Ecosystem Conference and Blue Bay x HKUST One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition (SZ) 10th Anniversary" was held at the SZ Park of the SZ-HK Innovation and Technology Co-operation Zone.

HKUST plans to admit about 300 students through China's 2026 national college entrance exam ("Gaokao"). These students will be admitted via an independent enrollment system, which will not affect their admission through the unified enrollment system. 

HKUST conferred Honorary Fellowships upon six distinguished individuals: Ms. Cally CHAN Shan-Shan, Mr. Vincent CHEUNG Sai-Sing, Prof. Mak Kin-Fai, Dr. Frank TONG Fuk-Kay, Prof. David WANG Der-Wei, and Dr. ZHOU Lidong (listed in alphabetical order by surname).  The ceremony was officiated by CC Prof. Harry SHUM, and P Prof. Nancy IP.  Prof. SHUM indicated that the new Honorary Fellows have demonstrated remarkable leadership and dedication to society, each contributing in unique ways that align with HKUST’s mission. 

Researchers from HKUST, MiniMax, and University of Waterloo have developed WebExplorer, a new framework for creating smarter and more efficient web search and browsing agents.

QS released the latest global rankings for MBA programs. HKUST ranked 49th this year, overtaking HKU to become the top-ranked university in HK. In response to a media enquiry, HKUST stated that rankings are one metric among many for evaluating university performance, emphasizing long-term teaching and research standards demonstrated by the University are more important. The University's MBA program, highly recognized across various indicators, will continue to evolve.  

LIFS/CBE Assoc. Prof. Angela WU is one of the eight scientists named the 2025 Schmidt Polymaths.  

Bloomberg released its 2024-25 Best Business School Rankings, with HKUST topping the list.  

HKUST and Fudan University announced a significant expansion of their strategic partnership, aimed at establishing a global academic exchange and innovation hub in new engineering disciplines. An MoU was signed to promote academic exchange and talent cultivation. 

ISD/ECE Prof. TSUI Chi-Ying appeared on RTHK’s Infinite Future program, sharing his views on chip design and AI development. 

HKGAI, led by HKUST with multiple universities’ participation, was featured in the "HK innovation insight" program.  Provost and HKGAI Director Prof. GUO Yike introduced HKGAI to visitors through his digital avatar at the entrance. This year, HKGAI launched HK's first AI large model, HKGAI V1, with several applications based on this model under development.
