Led by scholars from HKUST, a research team led by Prof. SU Hui, Chair Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Global STEM Professor, has discovered that, since the early 2000s, both sea surface temperature changes near the equator and the associated atmospheric adjustments over the Pacific have accelerated markedly—becoming a key driver of the increasingly rapid loss of Arctic sea ice during autumn. 

HKUST showcased its award-winning inventions, which were recognized at the 51st Geneva Inventions Expo. The University's 62 participating teams won a total of 62 accolades, including 13 Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, 20 Gold Medals, 20 Silver Medals, and 9 Bronze Medals, setting a new record for the University and making it the highest-awarded higher education institution in HK.

Sohu Founder Dr. Charles ZHANG delivered a physics lecture at HKUST last Saturday, introducing students to differential geometry vector calculus concepts. The lecture was also attended by CC Prof. Harry SHUM, Provost Prof. GUO Yike and VPIA Prof. Charles Ng Wang-Wai.

ITC announced that eight proposals have been approved for admission to the third InnoHK research cluster, SEAM@InnoHK, with total funding support of around HK$2.5 billion.  Among the approved proposals are two research centers led by HKUST: the Hong Kong Center for Renewable Energy and Storage (HKCRES) and the Power Semiconductors and Applications Center (PowerSAC). 

A research team led by CHEM Chair Prof. SUN Jianwei has developed an air-stable chiral phosphine-catalyzed enantioselective approach to synthesize enantioenriched S(IV)-stereogenic vinyl sulfinamides—an under-explored class of organosulfur compounds with promising antiviral activity.  

HK Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools Council signed an MoU with HKUST to provide diversified support for non-local students studying in HK. The agreement covers a range of activities and summer programs. 

A joint research effort from HKUST and other universities proposed the V-Bridge framework, which uses a video generation model to efficiently repair various image defects—such as blur and noise—after being trained on only 1,000 images, demonstrating astonishing data efficiency.

The HKUST MBA program has been ranked 24th globally in the Financial Times and continued to be the No. 1 MBA program in HK. This marks the 15th time since 2008 that the program has been placed among the world's top 25. 

A HKUST team led by CBE Assoc. Prof. SUN Fei and LIFS Head/Chair Prof. XIE Ting has developed CarGAP, a groundbreaking chemo-optogenetic tool that uses vitamin B12 and green light to precisely control gap junctions, the microscopic channels enabling direct cell-to-cell communication.  

VPIA Prof. Charles Ng Wang-Wai attended the 64th Rankine Lecture, hosted by the British Geotechnical Association, and was selected as the 65th Rankine Lecturer. He is the first Chinese and the second Asian scholar to receive this honor.
