Deans and directors of executive education from more than 50 top universities and business schools around the world gathered at the HKUST Business School today to kick off the 2014 UNICON Directors' Conference. They will engage in discussions about the growing opportunities and challenges for executive education in Asia. Professor Kalok Chan, Acting Dean of the HKUST Business School, said, "Asia is fast becoming a business education hub, which is reflected by the significant growth of education programs, including executive education. The rise of Asia has created a range of unprecedented opportunities for the industry, and opened windows for collaboration among business schools, not only within the region but also with the rest of the world."

This is the first time Mr Liu gave a speech at an educational institution in Hong Kong. The talk was well attended by students, faculty members and guests from HKUST. At the Forum, hosted by Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST, Mr Liu shared his insights on "The Growth of China's Manufacturers - Talking about Legend".

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced today the appointment of Mr Mark Hodgson to succeed Prof Yuk-shan Wong as Vice-President for Administration and Business (VPAB), starting from September. Mr Hodgson has over 26 years of experience in senior finance and administrative positions. He is currently Chief Financial Officer at Aston University, UK, covering a range of financial, business, estates and legal functions. He also plays a business role in the commercialization activities of the university's research. His appointment is the result of a rigorous global search. The Vice-President for Administration and Business is responsible for the planning and management of manpower, financial, physical and other resources to ensure delivery of services in support of the academic and research activities of the University, as well as strategic overview of administrative resources at HKUST.

Researchers from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have received two awards in the 2013 Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Science and Technology) presented by the Ministry of Education - one first-class and one second-class award.Prof Joseph Hun-wei Lee, Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies congratulated the winning research teams. "The prizes are recognition of our University's on-going efforts to pursue excellence in education, research and innovation. We will continue to look for more collaborative opportunities to deepen ties between local and Mainland scientists, with a view to boost socio-economical development in Hong Kong and Mainland China at large," Prof Lee said.

Prof Ben Zhong Tang, Stephen Kam Chuen Cheong Professor of Science and Chair Professor in the Department of Chemistry at HKUST, has been selected as a laureate of the 27th Khwarizmi International Award (KIA) by the Iranian Organization for Science and Technology. Prof Tang received the Khwarizmi International Award, Second Class, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and its high-tech applications in the areas of optoelectronic devices, chemical sensors, and biological probes.

ANZ donates 30 paintings painted by Susan Yuen, CEO of ANZ Hong Kong, for auction to raise proceeds for scholarship fund The Women's Foundation and ANZ announced today an exciting new partnership to address the under-representation of young women in Hong Kong pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects at university. The need for this support comes on the back of a new study conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) for The Women's Foundation showing that the technology sector continues to be largely male-dominated in Hong Kong.

HKUST Business School achieves widespread global recognition and a variety of prestigious academic rankings in a remarkably short period of time, and this year is no exception. A HKUST MBA Team becomes the winner of a prestigious international competition – the Marshall Challenge, empowering students to take action to lead the way forward. The HKUST MBA team outperformed their peers from the world’s top business schools and won the Grand Prize at the Marshall Global Consulting Challenge in late February. To reflect a positive and vibrant mood, the five-member team from around the globe made use of the international mix of the MBA program and soft skills they learned from the program including presentation skills, multifaceted data research approach and others to give it their best shot in the competition. Students learned from team collaboration with a broad perspective.
