The teams led by OCES/LIFS Chair Prof. QIAN Peiyuan and OCES Asst. Prof. WU Longjun launched the Deep Ocean Omicsdatabase, the world's first and largest multi-omics database dedicated to deep-sea organisms.  

 HKUST CSE and Deloitte China have signed an MoU to establish the “Deloitte x HKUST AI Lab”, aimed at nurturing local AI talent through career opportunities, industry-guided student projects, and knowledge sharing activities.  

HKUST Center for Aging Science showcased a humanoid robot designed to use AI to address challenges in elderly and rehabilitation care at the Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit 2025.

HKUST announced at a press conference that it has commenced preparations to establish a new medical school.  Global admissions will open by 2027 or earlier. The University plans to invest approximately HK$7 billion over the next 25 years to support the medical school’s development. 

Outdoor Wildlife Learning Hong Kong and HKUST released the findings of a large-scale baseline survey of HK school children’s nature connectedness and schools’ outdoor environmental education. The team made several recommendations, including urging schools to incorporate a sense of connectedness to nature into school policies.

VPRD Prof. Tim CHENG said in an interview that HKUST supports innovation and talents in eight areas, inspires talents into entrepreneurship and facilitates the commercialization and application of research outcomes. 

The establishment of Hong Kong's third medical school at HKUST was approved by the HKSAR Government. In a government media conference, it is stated that HKUST will build a complex for the medical school at the Clear Water Bay campus at its own cost, starting to enroll the first cohort of 50 students in 2028, while the teaching hospital in Ngau Tam Mei within the Northern Metropolis is expected to be operational by 2034 at the earliest. 

The HKUST student team “Kairos Takeoff Crew” won the championship at the Cathay Hackathon 2025. They focused on the low-cost airline HK Express and designed a digital platform that integrates gamification, AI, and sustainability. 

HKUST(GZ) has recently launched its pioneering MBA+ program.  HKUST(GZ) P Prof. Lionel NI said that technology, education, and talent are the cornerstones of advancing the Chinese-style modernization. HKUST(GZ) Asso. VP (Knowledge Transfer) Prof. Hui XIONG believed that cross-disciplinary integration is the source of innovation. 

HKUST(GZ) and Kiwimoore recently unveiled a joint laboratory.  HKUST(GZ) P Prof. Lionel NI and VP (Research) Prof. Ricky Shi-wei LEE attended the ceremony and shared their insights into cutting-edge technologies.
