CIVL Chair Prof. ZHANG Limin was honored at the Fourth National Research Excellence & Innovation Awards.  Prof. Zhang leads the Digital Cities and Smart Hazard Mitigation Laboratory, utilizing AI and digital twin technology to enhance disaster risk management and emergency mitigation capabilities in the GBA.  

ECE PhD graduate Dr. BU Yang explained that antibiotic resistance renders bacteria impervious to drugs, increasing the lethality of superbugs.  His team developed an AI-powered rapid detection device to combat this.  

HKUST and CICC co-hosted the 2026 Hong Kong Innovation Forum, focusing on strategies to cultivate a global innovation ecosystem. The event featured a speech by Mr. Paul CHAN, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government and CC Prof. Harry Shum, and a keynote address by VPRD Prof. Tim CHENG, along with prominent experts from Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.

A research team jointly led by HKUST OCES, the Institute of Zoology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Southern Marine Science and Engineering GD Laboratory (GZ)revealed the long-overlooked carbon storage potential of coral reef ecosystems

A team led by MAE Asst. Prof. ZHOU Yanguang has discovered a novel mechanism for rapid ion transport in solids, overturning the conventional "jumping model".  This breakthrough is expected to accelerate the development of all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries and thermoelectric conversion devices. 

A research team jointly led by HKUST OCES, the Institute of Zoology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou) has revealed the long-overlooked carbon storage potential of coral reef ecosystems. 

LIFS/CBE Prof. ZHU Guang introduced an anti-venom injection pen developed by his team, which utilizes recombinant human antibodies. 

CSE Chair Prof. ZHANG Qian introduced an AI-powered home monitoring system designed to conveniently track lung function and acute exacerbations in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. 

This year, HKUST has recorded more than double the number of student applications from Uzbekistan compared with last year. Two students from Central Asia were invited to share their experiences in HK.

CIVL Chair Prof. SU Hui, CIVL Head and Chair Prof. ZHANG Limin and EMIA Assoc. Prof. ZHAI Chengxing, together with around 50 students HKUST faculty and students, gathered on campus to watch the live broadcast of payload specialist Dr. LAI Ka-Ying boarding the Shenzhou 23 spacecraft.  

HKUST extends its warmest congratulations and expresses profound pride and excitement at Dr. LAI Ka-Ying, a payload specialist, embarking on a mission aboard the Tiangong Space Station.

HKUST has established the Biodiversity and Nature-Based Solutions Hub under ENVR/AIS to advance biodiversity education, research, innovation, and public engagement, alongside the efforts of its My Climate Risk Hub.
