HKUST In The Media

The establishment of Hong Kong's third medical school at HKUST was approved by the HKSAR Government. In a government media conference, it is stated that HKUST will build a complex for the medical school at the Clear Water Bay campus at its own cost, starting to enroll the first cohort of 50 students in 2028, while the teaching hospital in Ngau Tam Mei within the Northern Metropolis is expected to be operational by 2034 at the earliest. 

Outdoor Wildlife Learning Hong Kong and HKUST released the findings of a large-scale baseline survey of HK school children’s nature connectedness and schools’ outdoor environmental education. The team made several recommendations, including urging schools to incorporate a sense of connectedness to nature into school policies.

The HKUST student team “Kairos Takeoff Crew” won the championship at the Cathay Hackathon 2025. They focused on the low-cost airline HK Express and designed a digital platform that integrates gamification, AI, and sustainability. 

VPRD Prof. Tim CHENG said in an interview that HKUST supports innovation and talents in eight areas, inspires talents into entrepreneurship and facilitates the commercialization and application of research outcomes. 

HKUST(GZ) has recently launched its pioneering MBA+ program.  HKUST(GZ) P Prof. Lionel NI said that technology, education, and talent are the cornerstones of advancing the Chinese-style modernization. HKUST(GZ) Asso. VP (Knowledge Transfer) Prof. Hui XIONG believed that cross-disciplinary integration is the source of innovation. 

HKUST(GZ) and Kiwimoore recently unveiled a joint laboratory.  HKUST(GZ) P Prof. Lionel NI and VP (Research) Prof. Ricky Shi-wei LEE attended the ceremony and shared their insights into cutting-edge technologies.  

A team of students from HKUST and CUHK received three awards with their AI project "ArtInSight" at the HK ICT Awards 2025: Student Innovation Award Presentation Ceremony, including the Student Innovation Grand Award, Student Innovation (Higher Education) Gold Award and the Student Innovation Best Use of AI Award.  

Speaking at the CCB (Asia) 2025 Scholarship Award Ceremony, Assoc. Dean of Students Prof. Frank LAM Leung-Yuk expressed pride in HKUST’s collaboration with CCB (Asia) to launch the scholarship program. The first prize went to twostudents from the BSc in Quantitative Finance program and one from the BBA in Professional Accounting program.  

Australian AI healthcare company Heidi officially tapped into the HK market yesterday, announcing a research partnership with HKUST to jointly advance research on AI-assisted clinical records.  

A delegation from Beijing's Huairou District visited HKUST for a study and exchange tour.  The group met with key leaders for potential collaboration with HKUST. They aim to leverage the country's major research facilities and institutions in Huairou Science City to launch joint studies and tech transfer in key areas, such as chip semiconductors, sensors, life and health, and AI.  

 IPP held the forum "Global Experience and Local Practice: Shaping Hong Kong’s New Ride-Hailing Landscape ". Moderated by IPP Prof. of Practice in Public Policy and Senior Lecturer Donald LOW, the event featured expert from CUHK and industry leaders who discussed Hong Kong’s latest ride-hailing regulation and developments.
